Maud Rijks is the RIAS intern from July to September 2024. She grew up in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa before moving to her home country of the Netherlands to begin a bachelor’s in International Relations and International Organization at the University of Groningen.  Maud spent the last six months studying at King’s College London as an exchange semester for the Research Master History programme: Politics, Culture, and National Identities 1789 – Present at Leiden University. She is currently writing her thesis on anti-toxics campaigns and environmental justice in the US, for which she gladly makes use of the growing environmental history archival collection at the RIAS. In January 2025 she will begin a PhD project at Leiden University in Transatlantic Environmental History, under the supervision of Dario Fazzi, Professor by Special Appointmet at the RIAS.
