Join the Club!
Becoming a Friend of the RIAS means you will directly support postgraduate students who wish to gain research experience in our archive and library, ultimately helping to fulfill the RIAS mission of promoting a greater understanding of American society and transatlantic relations.
Each year, the RIAS organizes academic conferences, workshops, and public events on American history and transatlantic themes. Additionally, the RIAS offers grants to scholars, doctoral candidates, and students who come to Middelburg to conduct research in the RIAS library. We also host student excursions, PhD seminars, and regularly the annual ‘Amerikanistendag.’
The Friends of the RIAS has created the RIAS Student Scholarship to enable students and doctoral candidates to spend a month in the RIAS library using the archival collections. The scholarship amounts to €1,000, awarded once every calendar year.
MA and PhD students who wish to apply for the 2025 scholarship must fill out this application form before 1 March 2025. For more information, contact friendsrias@roosevelt.nl.
Friends of the RIAS can choose between two donation models:
- Starting from € 50 in a calendar year you will receive a “Friend of the RIAS” member status.
- Those who donate € 1,000 or more receive a “Friends for Life” member status.

Friends of the RIAS is a registered charitable foundation with ANBI status in The Netherlands. Donations are tax-deductible.
