Levi van Tilborg was the RIAS intern from October to December 2024. He is now finishing his Global History and International Relations MA at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam.
“I had the pleasure of working at the RIAS during the final months of 2024, and it was truly a great experience. It gave me an opportunity to learn from and get to know the institute, my colleagues, and the many visitors we welcomed during my time there. The variety of tasks kept me fairly busy but, thanks to the support of my colleagues, I always felt encouraged rather than overwhelmed. This period was incredibly valuable to me. I gained insights into working in academia and developed skills that will be useful to me for the rest of my life—and yes, my experience with Mailchimp will be mentioned on my CV!
From the Environmental History lecture during the first week of my internship, to the Black Citizenship conference during my last, my internship was filled with interesting and engaging events. Beyond those highlights, I also really enjoyed the daily rhythm of work. A big thank you to the people at the Zeeuws Archief as well as to the countless cups of coffee and tea that got me through my days!
Working at the RIAS also provided me with the opportunity to explore Middelburg and its surroundings. It’s a beautiful city in a lovely (if somewhat quiet) region. I’m sure I’ll find my way back here as soon as I get the chance.
A huge thank you to all of my colleagues at the RIAS for making my internship a wonderful and rewarding experience!”
