Wynonna Freiburghaus
Wynonna Freiburghaus was the intern at the RIAS from April to June 2024. She is currently completing her bachelor’s degree in History at Erasmus University Rotterdam and greatly enjoyed the experience of working with and for an archive. She is passionate about the social and cultural aspects of historical events. Her BA thesis focuses on the countercultural movement and its anti-war sentiment in the US during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
“I had the privilege of interning at the Roosevelt Institute of American Studies (RIAS) from April to June 2024. During these three incredibly busy and rewarding months, I immersed myself in a variety of roles and responsibilities that significantly contributed to my professional growth. I was deeply involved in organizing and managing several key events, including high-profile lectures and comprehensive seminars.
One of the highlights was organizing a lecture by the American Ambassador to the Netherlands, where I coordinated all aspects of the event, from planning to execution. Additionally, I took part in the three-day PhD seminar, which was the largest event I had the opportunity to manage. This seminar required meticulous attention to detail and coordination, including booking hotel rooms, arranging lecture spaces, and ensuring the smooth arrival of PhD students from all over Europe.
Overall, the dynamic and engaging environment at RIAS, combined with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals and international scholars, made the entire experience not only educational but also immensely enjoyable. My time at RIAS was truly transformative, and I look forward to applying the skills and knowledge I gained to my future endeavors.”
