Dutch-American Diplomatic Correspondence, 1784-1973

Since 1782, American diplomats have been posted in the Netherlands and in the Netherlands East and West Indies. Their reports to the State Department on political, economic and cultural affairs provide insightful information on the relations between the two countries over the past two centuries. This comprehensive collection consists of the American diplomatic correspondence from 1791 to 1973. It contains instructions by the State Department to American diplomats and consuls, and reports and recommendations by these diplomats and consuls to Washington. The collection also covers such topics as the economic situation in the 1930s, political developments in the Netherlands and its overseas colonies, World War II, the Marshall Plan, NATO, Vietnam, New-Guinea (304 reels). New additions to this collection include the inspection reports of the American mission in the 1950s, records of the Office of Western European Affairs and USIA reports.
