In 2021, the first annual RIAS/UCR “Sustainable Freedoms” Essay Prize was won by Alisa Adams for her essay “An approach towards truly sustainable sustainability for indigenous communities.” The jury found that this essay best engaged with the links between environmental policies and human rights, was forcefully argued and moreover relevant to other parts of the world (not just Mexico).
